About Tomas

Species scientific name: Alouatta caraya
Age/sex: Adult male
Likes: Being ‘active’
Special skills: Crossing roads
Best friend: Ruby

Tomas is quite the character. He’s always the first to confront any perceived danger. You can often catch him running through the branches to start grunting at you. For a howler monkey, he seems to always be moving. Running from one side of his group to the other, he knows where everyone is and that they are protected.

Tomas is an adult male who is a part of the group we call the ‘road’ group. This group lives at our natural field site, Estancia Santa Ana. Here, there are hectares and hectares of intact, mosaic wetlands sprinkled with scrub and gallery forests. Tomas’ home range is intersected by the highway that connects western Ñeembucú with the rest of Paraguay. To utilise the entirety of his home range, he bravely and skillfully leads his group across the highway to reach the other forest patch!

If you adopt Tomas, consider also adopting his best friend Ruby.

You can adopt Tomas for one year for £50.
