About Ruby

Species scientific name: Alouatta caraya
Age/sex: Adult female
Likes: Napping
Special skills: Picking the best nap spots
Best friend: Tomas

Ruby is a sleepy monkey, which for howler monkeys, is an impressive achievement to have. Ruby enjoys peaceful naps and not being bothered by the rowdy juveniles and subadults in her group. Ruby has her best friend Tomas who is on the lookout for any danger, so she is able to nap as much as she wants!

Ruby is an adult female who is a part of the group we call the ‘road’ group. This group lives at our natural field site, Estancia Santa Ana. Here, there are hectares and hectares of intact, mosaic wetlands sprinkled with scrub and gallery forests. Her home range is intersected by the highway that connects western Ñeembucú with the rest of Paraguay. To utilise the entirety of her home range, she bravely follows Tomas as he leads her and the rest of the group across the highway to reach the other forest patch, which provides even more trees for napping!

If you adopt Ruby, consider also adopting her best friend Tomas.

You can adopt Ruby for one year for £50.
