Fish projects

You can join in our waterside surveys on the Rio Paraguay and its tributaries, learning aquatic science techniques and helping to build a better understanding, and the first ever inventory, of the local aquatic life.

Intern spotlight: Harry Stephens (Australia) and Samuel Morel (Switzerland)

Harry and Sam chose to investigate the dietary habits of an understudied species of piranha, and a local carnivorous fish, the tare’yi. After employing net and line fishing methods, they used ImageJ to estimate quantities of different types of food in the stomach contents of the fish they caught. They worked together as a team, developing rowing muscles and learning new biological techniques using emerging technology for data analysis.
